“Creating spaces that are comfortable, memorable and inspiring”.
Hi, and welcome to Sunday spaces – a bespoke home staging business servicing Hamilton, Cambridge and the wider Waikato region. Mellissa founded Sunday Spaces in 2021 after combining a passion for modern, on-trend interiors and identifying a gap in the market for staging that was ticking those boxes. She strongly believes in the influence of style and first impressions, and how important these both are to get potential buyers through your front door.
How did the decision come about to start your own business in Home Staging?

To be honest, it was a bit of an on-the-whim decision! I had always had an interest in interiors and loved shopping for homewares but didn’t quite have the budget to buy as much as I would like too! After being in the market for a home, I found myself always looking to see what was available and could see so many homes that would present so much better with some modern, on-trend furniture and styling. So, the decision was made to start a business!

Looking at the whole staging process, what is your favourite part?

Favourite part would have to be the shopping and adding to our ever-growing inventory! When I started the business, I very naively thought that was going to be the thing I did the most, but alas admin and logistics wins that award. Of course, the end result once a home has been transformed and the clients get a great sale is extremely rewarding and a big highlight too.

What is your go-to piece of furniture/decor right now and why?

The Hawthorne Parq range really is so timeless and works incredibly well with nearly every style. It works so well in character homes, but equally well in a new-build to really inject some warmth and interest to the spaces. I also love the Bank range for the same reason. The Soho modular is also a great piece as I love the modern style and being modular means, it gives me great flexibility for a range of different spaces.

Stand-out project in the last year?

This may sound very cliche, but I am so fortunate to get to work in some of the best houses in the Waikato at the moment. Taylor Street Townhouses in Cambridge are a standout, the two they had staged were completely different in design but so beautifully finished and incredible workmanship, and they were rewarded with a gold award at the NZ Architecture Awards.

Next thing you’d love to do (in life/with the business)?

For me the last three years have been incredibly hectic building this business from the ground up (with three kids under 4), and I am quite fortunate to have got to the position I am in now. The next year for me is getting a bit of a better work/life balance and enjoy the two days I have my little two at home before I have another one off to school next year! Business wise would be setting up some processes to streamline the workflow and really solidify some of the incredible relationships I have within the real estate industry here in the Waikato.
