We love your social presence especially the photography, what would you say your style is when choosing product?

Gosh I’m not sure if my style actually has a name, it’s eclectic, a bit tribal, bit modern rustic, bit minimalist. I love all natural elements like wood, leather, rattan, palm husk, jute & rumpled linens. I love old wood pieces that have naturally aged like you find in Hawthorne’s ORIGINAL section. I like old next to new, dark next to light & a few oversized pieces are a must. My decor look at home is always evolving, pieces come & go… I guess it’s lucky I also own a homewares store!

With everything going on in the COVID world right now, it’s hard to get creative sometimes, what do you draw inspiration from?

My creative inspiration for my business comes from within I love to go into my studio and just start making but I guess some inspiration can come from Social Media, mainly Instagram (I’m not big on Facebook) also from the many beautiful inspirational books that are available at the moment. If I could have Leanne Ford turn up on my doorstep to style my home, I would be in heaven... she has an amazing talent, her style is fabulous!! But also I like what I like and when I see something and get that gut feeling about it, it usually comes home with me or I make my version of it.

What is your favourite piece of (Hawthorne) furniture right now and why?

Oooh that’s a hard one... it would have to be the large Wooden Bakers Rack in my kitchen, it’s a great piece for storage & display. I also love all their recycled Iron & Zinc wares & also have a real soft spot for their old Indian pieces, parats, doughbowls, grinders etc they are so authentic and add some real character to any style home.

Invaluable styling tip?

Here’s a few... Paint it white, less is certainly more, light a Candle or have some good ambient lighting, you can’t beat it & trust your gut always.

Upcoming trend that you can’t get enough of?

I’m not really a trend person sorry, I believe in the buy what you love trend but a bit of greenery around the home is a must.

Next thing you’d love to do (in life/with the business)?

My Scarlet Design business is small, my studio is my sanctuary where I go to create & hang out surrounded by what I love so to spend a bit more time in there making my natural décor pieces is my goal going forward. My other business is 17blonde retail store which I co own with a friend, we design & make linen clothing for women & sell natural style homewares in the beautiful Wine Village of Martinborough. So as long as both my businesses allow me to keep smiling & feeling grateful... my cup is full.
