After years of building and renovating her own homes, Nicola thought it was time to turn her passion into a career, helping others create their own dream home. She’s that reassuring helping hand, giving you guidance throughout what can be a stressful process. Creating spaces which feel harmonious and welcoming when you walk through them, while adding pops of personality which are timeless but uniquely you.
Morning coffee in hand, how do you prep yourself for a creative day? Where does the inspiration come from?

Always a list, with pen and paper so there is room for doodling. Pinterest is always a great start when trying to find inspiration, but also photos I’ve taken on my phone when I’ve been out that inspire me and I still love flicking through a glossy mag too.

How do you narrow down what a client really wants/needs when designing a space?

Really listening to them, as often they aren’t sure what they really need and hearing them speak about their space and lifestyle will give you some real insight into this. The budget usually helps a lot with narrowing things down, but at the end of the day I just go with my gut.

We’re noticing some subtle pinks throughout your photography, what are your thoughts on adding colour?

Well I do love pink! As much as I love fresh white and creams, I think colour adds a bit more personality, even if it is soft muted tones. I’m not one to follow any “rules” with design but I do think a touch of black in a space adds a bit of impact too.

What is your favourite piece of furniture right now and why?

Tricky choice! The Bentwood Rattan Dining chair would have to be one of my fav’s though – Such a classic, timeless chair. Very on trend currently with the rattan but a versatile piece that can work in many styling situations.

Invaluable tip when starting the styling journey of a home?

Have a colour palette in mind, then start with your biggest piece first and build from that, whether that’s sofa or table, etc.

Trends come and go, are there any you see sticking around?

I love the curves that are on trend, and I think done right a couple of those curved pieces can remain timeless for years.

Next thing you’d love to do (in life/with the business)?

I’ve got big plans for Nicola Travis Interiors, so watch this space. At home we are about to embark on a huge renovation, so I'm looking forward to getting that under way and then sitting back and enjoying our home once it’s done.
