How did you start your career as a stylist?

I originally studied Fine Arts and spent the first 7 years of my career in Auckland as a Graphic Designer. Interiors had always been a huge passion of mine and as soon as I was earning a living wage I was quickly spending it on home furnishings. In 2014 we decided to sell our Auckland home and move to Papamoa to start a family. Our first home was our pride and joy, we spent many weekends working on it, so when it came to selling it, I poured my heart and soul into making sure it was immaculately presented. The house had a pre-auction offer on day 3 of the campaign and it sold on day 6. It was then I realised this is something I wanted to do full time, so six months later I started a home staging company in Papamoa and I never looked back.

What drives your design decisions? What are some of your biggest inspirations?

I draw inspiration from just about anywhere - fashion, art, books, nature or even food. Working in the creative field, I feel attuned to seeking inspiration as I move through the day. I am also lucky to have an abundance of incredibly clever, creative friends in my life who are forever inspiring me, I believe the best results are in collaboration and openness to ideas.

What is your own personal philosophy when it comes to curating a space?

I believe a home should reflect the people who live there, their personality and style. It should tell a story and speak to the soul but also have practicality and lifestyle in mind.

I have a less is more approach when it comes to curating a space. I find there is a sense of calm when a space is free from clutter. I'm a neutral's girl through and through, my preference is texture over colour using tones/hues inspired from nature.

What are you working on at the moment?

There is always a lot on the go, but a bigger project I am working on is a commercial refit. Something new for me, however I am lucky to be working alongside some of my favourite local designers and artisans which has been hugely inspirational and taught me so much.

What is your favourite piece of Hawthorne Furniture/decor right now?

Oooo this is a hard one, there are so many amazing products. For interiors, it would have to be the Lotus Range, these sofas are so versatile, they work across any style of home, they come in the most beautiful colours/fabric and having washable covers provides so much practicality. For outdoors I’m a big fan of the Awatere planters, they really do transform an outdoor space.

Next thing you'd like to do in life/business?

At the end of every year I always say to myself that next year needs to be quieter but it never is. At home we plan to renovate our ensuite next, the last part of our full renovation. I love the creative process of renovating so I'm really excited to finish the final space. We are also keen to do a few residential builds of our own and I really hope to fit in some travel with the family.
